Anthony J. Evangelista, 88, of Fleetwood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, with his loving wife by his side.
He was the devoted husband of Cecelia Ann Vetro Evangelista, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage on May 16th. Born in Hazleton, PA, Anthony was the son of the late Michael Evangelista and Elizabeth Corra Evangelista.
A 1953 graduate of Hazleton High School, Anthony pursued his passion for art and education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Kutztown University in 1957 and a Master of Education in Art Education from Penn State University in 1961.
Anthony's 39-year teaching career included roles at Montrose Consolidated Schools, Hazleton City School District, Wilkes College, and Kutztown University where he proudly served as Associate Professor of Art in the Department of Art Education and Crafts from 1968 till his retirement in 1996.
Not only was Anthony an Art Educator, he was also an accomplished artist. Working in various media, Anthony's creative passions led to his work being featured in various art exhibitions and student-focused lectures.
Beyond his dedication to Art and to Art Education, Anthony was renowned for his extensive collection of radio memorabilia, which gained national recognition as a significant cultural artifact. His work was featured on two national TV networks and exhibited in prestigious venues, including the Smithsonian Institution. Anthony also had a passion for elaborate Stoneware Pottery, adding to his legacy as a celebrated collector.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cecelia, and their three daughters: Beth Ann, widow of Benedict Sahd; Christine Marie, wife of John Bishop; and Roberta Louise, wife of Kevin Grauer. Anthony is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Phillip Sahd husband of Kristen, Laura Rodgers wife of Brett, Paige Bishop fiancé to Michael Ordorica, Brianne Koffs wife of Jake, and Gina Grauer fiancé of Maxwell Antos, as well as his great-grandchildren, Benedict and Juliet Sahd.
A viewing will be held at the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood, on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the Fleetwood Cemetery.
