April L. (Kalin) Garrett, 58, passed away on October 26, 2026 at Reading hospital, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
April was born on May 19, 1968 in Reading and was a lifelong resident of Fleetwood. April will be remembered most of all as a devoted mother, a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and cherished friend.
April was a strong, independent woman who lived life on her own terms. She was unapologetically herself, and she will be remembered for her strength, her spirit, and the way she left her mark on the people around her.
April's greatest joy in life was being a mom to her beloved children, Austin and Paige. She was their number one fan in life, cheering them on every step of the way. Whether she was supporting them from the sidelines or standing behind them through life's challenges, April was always in their corner. Her pride in Austin and Paige was unwavering, and nothing meant more to her than seeing them grow, succeed, and become the people they are today. Being their mom was her greatest role, and she carried that role with all her heart.
April was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan who proudly cheered on her team. Her passion for the Steelers was another part of what made her uniquely herself
She was a loving cat mom to Mushu, Baloo, and Charlotte, who brought her comfort and companionship.
April was a 1986 graduate of Fleetwood Area High School and earned an Associates degree from Reading Area Community College. April worked for the Fleetwood School District for many years, most recently as a secretary in the Business Office. She also worked in Food Service and Facilities and coaching field hockey. Prior to that she worked in restaurant management.
She found happiness in the music of Elvis Presley, Jimmy Buffett, and Johnny Mathis, to name a few. Her favorite days were those with warm weather listening to her favorite song "Safetydance", and the simple pleasures that made life special.
April is survived by her children, Austin and Paige; her mother, Carol Kalin of Muhlenberg; her brother, Michael Kalin and his fiancé Lori, of Middleberry, her nephew, Derik Kalin, and his wife, Emily, of Blandon; and her niece, Angela Greth, and her husband, Trevor, of Fleetwood. April is also remembered by her 5 great-nieces and nephews. Mackenna, Gavin, Cameron, Kendrick, and Leland.
She was preceded in death by her father, J. Michael Kalin, and her sister-in-law, Deanne Kalin.
April will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Her fierce independence, strong spirit, devotion to her children, and unmistakable personality will never be forgotten. She lived life her way, loved her family deeply, and leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever.
May she rest in peace, forever remembered for the strong, independent, one-of-a-kind badass she was. And may she always be cheering for her Steelers.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the following;
