Obituary

Arlan "Abe" Heffner, age 86, of Fleetwood, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in the Reading Hospital Medical Center.
He was the widower of Joyce E. (Buchalter) Heffner, who passed on July 17, 2013.
Born in Fleetwood, on March 11, 1930, he was a son of the late Earl F. Heffner and Ellen R. (Koller) Heffner.
Abe was a graduate of Fleetwood High School class of 1948. He was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1951 to 1953. He served as a cook throughout his military service..
Arlan had worked Allentown Cement Company in Evansville for 21 years. He was a supervisor for many years, retiring in March of 1994. Prior work experience included Reading Industries and Grand Central Taproom.
Abe was very active in the Fleetwood community, serving as post commander of Horace M. Kieffer Home Association Post 625 of the American Legion in Fleetwood. He served as a past officer for the Fleetwood Jaycees and was a past financial secretary of the Fleetwood Fire Company Relief Association. He also was a long - time member of the Breakfast Brothers, community service group.
Abe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He also enjoyed golfing and was a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan.
Abe is survived by his four daughters - Rebecca E. (Heffner), wife of Monte Schroeder, of Shoemakersville; Nancy L. (Heffner), wife of Harold W. Miller, of Blandon; Katie E. Heffner of Fleetwood; and Mary B. (Heffner), wife of Tony Plucker, of Blandon. Arlan is also survived by ten grandchildren – Lynmarie (Schroeder) Hilt, Derek Schroeder, Tim Schroeder, Lisa Schroeder, Lindsay Schroeder, Gregory Miller, Stephen Miller, Colton Plucker, Alex Plucker, Sydney Plucker. He is also survived by four great grandchildren – Jacob Schroeder, Ellie Schroeder , Cole Hilt, and
Avery Hilt.
Surviving is brother Fred H. Heffner of Fleetwood. In addition, he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to invite friends to join them for graveside services on Saturday, August 27 at 10:00 AM at Berks County Memorial Gardens, Military honors will be conducted.
