Barry D. Hawkins, 72, of Fleetwood, passed away on Saturday November 11, 2017, surrounded by his family at Penn State Health St. Joseph's, Reading. He was the husband of Elsie V. (Ohlinger) Hawkins, and they celebrated 51 years of marriage on October 22nd.
Born in Reading, he was son of the late John P. Hawkins and Esther J. (Bieber) Hawkins.
Barry graduated from Fleetwood High School class of 1962. He served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard for six years.
He had been the president and service manager of the former Bob's Auto Sales, Temple, retiring in 1999. After retirement, he worked fourteen years as a school bus driver for Oley Valley School District.
Barry was very active in the community as a member of the Fleetwood Fire Company Truck Crew, Fleetwood Fish Rodeo, Breakfast Brothers, Post 625 American Legion Honor Guard and past president of Fleetwood Fish and Gun Club. Barry was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed being at his cabin in Centre County. He belonged to Kempton Gun Club, Perry Gun Club and the Kutztown Fire Company.
Barry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife Elsie, sons David A. Hawkins husband of Maribeth Hawkins of Fleetwood, Brian J. Hawkins husband of Jackie Hawkins of Seattle, WA and Scott M. Hawkins husband of Victoria Hawkins of Fleetwood. He is survived by four grandchildren Katie L. Hawkins, Mitchell D. Hawkins, William J. Hawkins and Elise M. Hawkins. Also surviving are his brothers Robert L. Hawkins of Fleetwood and Donald P. Hawkins of Hamburg, as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Barry was preceded in death by his brothers Carl R. Hawkins and John R. Hawkins.
A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. A second viewing will be Friday morning from 10:00AM to 11:00AM from Maidencreek Church, 261 Main Street, Blandon. Funeral services will follow at 11:00AM. Burial will be in St. Paul's Union Cemetery, Fleetwood. Memorial contributions can be made in Barry's memory to Maidencreek Church or Fleetwood Fire Company Truck Crew.
