Bleiler

Betty Louise Bleiler (Harting), 85, died Monday, December 26, at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township. She was predeceased in 1991 by her husband, Dalton M. Bleiler. They were married for 32 years. She was also predeceased in 2009 by Wilbert W. Strunk, her companion of 16 years.
She was born in Maxatawny Township and was the daughter of the late Harold L. Harting and Alverta Walborn. She was raised for many years of her young life by the late Miles M. and Mamie E. Smith in Maxatawny Township.
Betty was a loving and caring mother and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed the game nights and the company of her many dear friends at Wilson Manor Apartments in Kutztown where she resided.
She was employed at Wenton Shoe Factory in Kutztown until its closure. When she and Dalton moved to Fleetwood, she began caring for young children in their home on Vine Street and continued for decades thereafter. She was an important part of many children's lives throughout the years and many of them lovingly called her "Nana." Upon Dalton's death, she closed her day care and waitressed at a few restaurants in the area.
Betty was a member at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, where for over 21 years she was a teacher and eventually the superintendent of the 4's and 5's Sunday School class as well as a member of the Board of Christian Education.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lyons and Kutztown Fire Companies. She was a member of the Kutztown Rod and Gun Club.
She was predeceased in 1998 by her grandson, Lee M. Dengler, Jr., and in 2000 by her stepdaughter, Lucinda M. (Bleiler) Warmkessel.
She is survived by her children: Stephen H.D., husband of Elaine (Heffner) of Richmond Township; Susan L., wife of Guy Landis of Richmond Township; and Tara C., wife of Christopher Raymond of Bern Township; and a stepson, David M. Bleiler of Arizona. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jenny, Stephen J., Phillip D., Katelyn P., and Jenna L., and five great-grandchildren: Liam, Graesyn, Bennett, Jackson, and Garrett.
A viewing will be held for Betty on Friday evening December 30, 2022 from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM at Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. A second viewing will be Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5 West Arch Street, Fleetwood, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Union Cemetery, Fleetwood. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Betty's memory to St. Paul's UCC Memorial Fund, 5 West Arch St., Fleetwood, PA.
