Betty M. Gruber, age 94, formerly of Fleetwood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2024, at Maidencreek Place, Maidencreek Township. She was the wife of the late John R. Gruber, who passed away in 1995. Born in Rockland Township, Betty was the daughter of the late Russell G. Sanders and Carrie D. (Sheetz) Sanders.

A 1947 graduate of Fleetwood High School, Betty worked for the former Red Cheek Corporation in Fleetwood for 18 years, retiring in 1986. She was a devoted member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fleetwood.

Betty loved bird watching, especially cardinals, and cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking holiday meals, always encouraging her family with the advice, "Don't be afraid to eat." She also looked forward to attending her cousins' luncheons and taking trips to Maryland to get oysters.

She is survived by her son, Richard J. Gruber, husband of Christine  Gruber of Leesport, and her daughter, Kathy L. Heffner, wife of Timothy Heffner. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Chad Heffner, husband of Amy Heffner, and Katie Riley, wife of Bryan Riley, along with four great-grandchildren: Anya Heffner, Ace Heffner, Levon Riley, and Hannah Riley.

Betty is also survived by her siblings: Marlin R. Sanders of Fleetwood, Allen R. Sanders of Florida, Nancy Schlegel of Fleetwood, Debbie Baniszeski of Dover, PA, and Bonnie Loy of North Carolina. She was predeceased by her sister, Doris Gift.

A viewing will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 117 East Arch Street, Fleetwood, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at St. Paul's Union Cemetery, Fleetwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the memorial fund of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fleetwood.
