Calvin C. Hoch, age 87, Fleetwood, passed away on Tuesday April 7, 2015 in Hearthstone at Maidencreek. He was the husband of the late Elsie K. (Merkel) Hoch who passed on April 16, 2006.
Cal was born on March 7, 1928 on the family farm in Greenwich Township. He was a son of the late Harry H. Hoch and Sallie V. (Heck) Hoch.
He had worked as a welder for the former Boyertown Auto Body for 23 years. He also worked as a bus driver for Carl R. Bieber Tourways and a truck driver for FM Brown Feeds and Agway.
Cal belonged to St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Molltown since 1952. Calvin served as president of the consistory and financial secretary for St. Peter's. He was treasurer of their Sunday School and had the position of church sexton for 20 years.
Calvin believed in community service and was a member of the Fleetwood Fire Co. Truck Crew and Ambulance and served as their treasurer for 38 years. Cal was a fifty-year member of the Fleetwood Fire Company and a life member of Berks County Fire Police.
Calvin also proudly belonged to Washington Camp 103 Patriotic Order Sons of America serving as president for 20 years. In past years Calvin headed the Hoch- High Family Association, and lead as president for 20 years and as the family organization's treasurer for more than 40 years.
Some of his interests were woodworking and going on bus excursions with Elsie and later with his companion Marian Moyer.
Cal was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his children: Sallie E. (Hoch) widow of George C. Miller, Hamburg; David C. Hoch, husband of Debra (Mazurie) Hoch, Fleetwood; Stuart C. Hoch husband of Alieen (Mitchell) Hoch, Fleetwood; and Patricia A. (Hoch), wife of Robert W. Finley, Exeter Township. Cal has five grandchildren: Stephanie R. wife of Michael Bennecoff; Kelly A. wife of Matthew Schlegel; Monica S., wife of William Thomas; Timothy R. Haydt, husband of Sabrina Haydt and Shawn A. Fies, husband of Christina Fies. There are nine great-grandchildren, five step- grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren.
Other survivors include a sister Ruth E. (Hoch) Adams, Macungie and a brother Harry C. Hoch, Kutztown.
Cal was preceded in death by his sister, Sara (Hoch) Kramer and his brother, Daniel G. Hoch.
A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 7:00pm to 8:30pm from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 am at St. Peter's United Church of Christ 219 Maidencreek Road, Fleetwood after a viewing from 10:00am to time of service. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Contributions can be made to either the memorial fund of St. Peter's U. C. C. or to the Fleetwood Fire Company Truck Crew in remembrance of Calvin.
