Obituary

Carol A. Schlegel (Phillips) "Sis", 90 of Oley passed away on August 2, 2025 surrounded by her loving husband and children. She was the wife of Richard C. Schlegel who celebrated 70 years of marriage on June 11.

Carol was born in Fleetwood on March 22, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Andrew M. Phillips and Elsie (Hunsberger) Phillips. She was a graduate of Fleetwood High School. Carol studied education at Kutztown University.

In her early years she worked as a waitress at the Piccadilly restaurant and over the years she worked at Windsor press, Temple greenhouse, as a cafeteria aid working at the Berks Career and Technology Center later transitioning into her cherished role as an assistance teacher placing special needs students into the workplace. Retiring in 1993, she further explored her talents in painting and crafting, developing quite the partnership with her husband. She envisioned it and he would build it. Her greatest joy was the time she was able to spend as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother with the support of her husband. She dedicated her life to her family until the end.

Carol was a member of Zion Spies Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband Richard C. Schlegel, son Todd A., husband of Jeanne (Benzenhafer) Schlegel, daughters Patti L. (Schlegel), wife of Todd Miller, Ann L. (Schlegel) Seidel wife of Michael A. Seidel and Karen Schlegel wife of Brian L. Schlegel, her pride and joy. Also surviving are her 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Bower) Angstadt, Jaime (Bower) Nace, Erika (Schlegel) Ream, Danielle (Erario) Reading, Chad Schlegel, Alex Messner, Austin Seidel, Brandt Schlegel, Nicholas Seidel, Jillian (Seidel) Fields, Riley Schlegel, 15 great grandchildren and her sister Marilyn M. (Phillips) wife of Kenneth D. Schittler. Carol was predeceased by her sister Shirley Joan Phillips, brother Glenn M. Phillips, brothers-in-law Joel (Joey) and Carl (Sonny) Schlegel and son-in-law Scott A Bower.

Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday August 6th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Thursday August 7th from 10:00AM to 11:00 AM with a funeral service following at the Mae A Stump Funeral Home Inc. 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. The burial will be in Frieden's Cemetery in Oley.
