Bergstresser

Charles H. Bergstresser, 82, of Fleetwood, passed away on Tuesday January 22, 2018, surrounded by his family at Penn State Health St. Joseph's, Reading. He was the husband of the late Ardell M. (Hoch) Bergstresser who passed on January 24, 2014.
Born in Maidencreek Township, he was son of the late Wilson W. G. .Bergstresser and Margaret E. (LaFaver) Bergstresser.
Charles graduated from Fleetwood High School class of 1953. After high school he joined the U S Navy Reserves and spent 35 years of service.
He had been employed by Parish Dana Corporation, Reading for 30 years retiring in 1994.
Charles was very active in the community as a member of the Fleetwood Fire Company Truck Crew, he joined the department as a junior fireman in 1951. He became a truck crew lieutenant, safety officer and later became vice president and president of the Truck Crew for many years. In 1952 the fire company started an ambulance service and Charles was one of first to receive medical certification to part of the ambulance crew and in 1975 he became an E.M.T.. He also was the president of the Fleetwood Fire Company Social Quarters for years giving up the office in November of 2017.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ Fleetwood where he served on the consistory and taught 8 th grade Sunday School for 15 years. St. Paul's also sponsored Boy Scout Troop 103 where he became the scout master for 15 years. Charles was an active member of the Order of the Arrow and attended the vigil of honor. He also was a Y Indian Guide Leader. With his wife Ardell he helped with leadership of the Camp Fire Girls. He also was a coach of Little League Baseball and Youth Soccer programs. He also was a 2000 board member of Tarsus, Inc. a senior work place. In 2006 he received the Life time Achievement award from the Fleetwood Truck Crew and the Citizen of the Year award from the Fleetwood Grange. Other memberships include Huguenut Lodge No. 377 F&AM Kutztown, A.A.S.R. Valley of Reading and Rajah Shrine Legion of Honor.
Charles is survived by his daughter Belinda M, (Bergstresser) Stoudt, wife of Bryan L. Stoudt of Fleetwood and son Charles H. Bergstresser, Jr., husband of Sherri R. (Steck) Bergstresser of Dillsburg. Also, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his silblings Leon Bergstresser of Fleetwood, Bruce Bergstresser of Lumberton, NC., Sandra (Bergstresser) Eidle of Oley and Audrey Bergstresser of Harrisburg.
Charles was preceded in death by his brother Keith Bergstresser.
A viewing will be held Friday evening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5 West Arch Street, Fleetwood. Masonic services by Huguenot Lodge #377 at 8:00 PM. A second viewing will be Saturday morning from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM in the church. Burial will be in St. Paul's Union Cemetery, Fleetwood. Memorial contributions can be made in Charles's memory to Fleetwood Fire Company Truck Crew, 16 North Chestnut Street, Fleetwood or the Fleetwood Fire Company Social Quarters, 101 North Franklin Street, Fleetwood, PA 19522
