Charles H. Dunkel, age 87, of Cordova, TN. formerly of Maidencreek, passed away on July 24th in Delta Medical Center, Memphis, TN. He was the husband of Madeline E. (Manmiller) Dunkel with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage on August 12, 2014.
Born on September 24, 1927 in Maidencreek Township, the son of the late Samuel W. Dunkel and Bertha I. (Schaeffer) Dunkel.
He was a graduate of Reading High School.
Charles was a U S Army veteran of World War II. He served during the occupation of Japan where he received the Army of Occupation Medal and the Japan World War II Victory Medal. .
He had worked in industrial gas as office sales manager for Blue Valley Service, Allentown for 44 years.
Charles for many years was a member of the Blandon Fire Company and Relief Association. Charles was active in the construction, building and racing stock cars particularity #44 owned by the late Richard Meals. He also loved hunting and fishing and training Beagles.
He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and great grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He was formally very active in Maidencreek Church, Blandon where he served as a deacon and head usher.
Charles is survived by his wife Madeline, son, Dr. Edmund C. Dunkel of Pompano Beach, Florida and daughter Elizabeth C. "Charlie" (Dunkel) wife of Curt Cahoon of Memphis, TN. Also three grandchildren, Johanna I. Dunkel, Samuel C. Dunkel, William C. Dunkel and two great grandchildren Nathan Weber and Samuel Weber.
A funeral service will be held Thursday July 30th at 11:00 AM in Maidencreek Church, 261 Main Street, Blandon A visitation will be held 9:30AM to time of service. Burial will follow in Maidencreek Cemetery. Contributions in Charles memory can be made to Maidencreek Church or the National Alzheimer's Association.
