Darwin H. Schaeffer, 86, of Kutztown passed away in the Penn State St. Joseph Hospital Reading on Tuesday, April 25, 2017.
He was the husband of Yolanda M. (Stroffolino) Schaeffer. They celebrated 33 years of marriage in July.
Darwin was born in Fleetwood the son of the late Henry M. and Helen (Dietrich) Schaeffer.
He graduated from Kutztown High School and Reading Business Institute. Darwin also attended Kutztown University.
He retired from Kutztown University after 26 years where he was Director of Purchasing.
A lifelong member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ Fleetwood. Darwin loved music and was a highly accomplished trombone player. He played in many bands and was a 47 year member of the Ringgold Band.
In high school he played in the State Future Farmers of America Band in State College and Harrisburg, and the First National FFA Band in Kansas City, Missouri. Some the other bands included Oley American Legion Band, Centerport Band, Band of Berks County and Philharmonic Band.
Darwin other interest where play golf, bowling and traveling with his wife Yolanda to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.
Darwin is survived by his wife Yolanda and children Kay L. Boran of Orwigsburg, PA, wife of Dr. Thomas Boran, and Vicki L. Burkett of Adel Iowa, wife of Chris Burkett; Denise L. Galczynski of Fleetwood, PA, wife of Gerald Galczynski and Anthony Imperial of San Francisco, CA.
Also surviving are grandchildren Matthew Burkett, Ryan Burkett, Benjamin Burkett, Patricia Boran, Thomas Boran Jr., Jacqulie Boran, Mark Boran, Adam Galczynski, Bryce Galczynski, Vanessa McAndrew wife of James McAndrew and Brittney Light.
Darwin was preceded in death by his daughter Pauline M. Lichman and brother J. Robert Schaeffer.
Also a niece Stacey daughter of J. Robert Schaeffer.
A viewing will be Saturday April 29th from 10:30AM to 12:00 noon followed by funeral services at 12:00 noon from St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5 West Arch Street, Fleetwood, Pa 19522.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the memorial fund of St. Paul's UCC in memory of Darwin.
