Obituary

David A. Anderson, age 65, of White Plains, Maryland, formerly of Fleetwood, PA died suddenly of a brain aneurysm on Sunday September 2, 2012 in University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, Maryland.
Born in Reading, PA on October 8, 1946 he was the son of James L. and Mary Jane (Peter) Anderson of Fleetwood.
He was a 1965 graduate of Fleetwood High School and a 1970 graduate of Appalachian State University, North Carolina where he later returned and received his Masters in Education. This is also where he met his spouse and on June 14, 1969 he married his wife of 43 years, Garnet R. (Duffy) Anderson.
David was currently the Athletic Director at Henry E. Lackey High School in Indian Head, Maryland where he has worked since 1970. In addition to his service as Athletic Director for the past 34 years he performed such duties as physical education teacher, 30 years as soccer coach and 10 years as basketball coach for the school. In 1995 he completed the national training to be classified as a Certified Athletic Administrator. He led professional development as a member of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrative Association (NIAAA) as well as the Maryland State Athletic Directors Association (MSADA). In his local area he was a Southern Maryland Athletic Conference Chairperson for soccer and swimming. He received numerous awards and honors including SMAC coach of the year, Awards of Merit from the NIAAA on the local and state levels, MSADA Athletic Director of the Year for 1997, 2009 and 2010 and MSADA Professional Development Award in 2012, now known as the Anderson-Belinko Professional Development Award.
He was a devoted grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his beloved granddaughters. He was a member of St. Charles Sportsman Club where he was an avid deer hunter. He was very interested in working with and helping people with disabilities.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Brian J. Anderson, daughter-in-law Jocelyn L. Anderson of Bowie, MD, four granddaughters, Grace, Carolyn, Annella and Evelyn Anderson as well as his parents, two brothers, Roger L. Anderson and Russell J. Anderson both of Fleetwood and a sister Ruth M. (Anderson) Manmiller of Blandon.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 8th at 11:30 am from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood, PA. A viewing will be Saturday, morning 9:30AM to 11:30AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fleetwood Cemetery, Fleetwood, PA. Contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. A Memorial Service will be on Saturday September 15, 2012 at 1:00 PM from Henry E. Lackey High School, Indian Head, Maryland.
