David P. Mertz, age 61, of Fleetwood, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013 in his residence. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Lynn M. (Olinger) Mertz.
David was born on February 16, 1952 in Reading, he was the son of the late Russell P. Mertz and Florene C. (Border) Rex.
He graduated from Brandywine High School in 1970.
David worked for R O K Machine in Temple and previously worked for Mercury Machine and Tool of Hyde Park.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fly fishing, hunting and clamming. His free time was spent painting signs and slates. David had been very active in the Oley Valley Youth League Field Hockey program where he had been a coach for many years. He followed the players that he coached as they played for Oley Valley High School team. David was a proud member of Dawg Pound support group.
David is survived by his wife Lynn and their two daughters Tiffany L. Mertz companion of Nathan Harris and two sons Hunter and Parker of Bethel and Janese D. (Mertz) wife of Jason Middleton of Catonsville, MD and their son Jonas G. Middleton . Also a sister Kathy L. (Mertz) wife of Donald E. Noll of Kutztown. Father in law Lloyd E. Olinger and mother in law Betty Lee Sprague both of the Villages in Florida. Sister in law Cynthia L. (Olinger) Raymond of Boyertown and brother in law Kevin D. Olinger, Sr. husband of Rayetta Olinger of Fleetwood. Other survivors include nieces Adrienne, Raynelle and Racine and nephews Nathan, Rosten, Ryan and Phillip. Preceded in death by his nephew Kevin D. "Turk" Olinger, Jr.
He will be greatly missed by his cat Millie.
Funeral service will be Thursday May 2nd at 9:30AM from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Viewings will be Wednesday evening 6:00PM to 8:00 PM and Thursday 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fleetwood Cemetery.
