David L. Wails, age 77, of West Lawn, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in the Reading Hospital Medical Center. The husband of Mary E. (Breidegam) Wails, they celebrated 53 years of marriage on June 23rd.
Born on June 4, 1939, in Reading the son of the late John M. Wails and Dolly (Sweezey) Wails
David was a graduate of Reading High School. He received a B S degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State. He had been employed by Carpenter Technology as an engineer for 32 years retiring in 1989. He served as senior design engineer, general foreman for stores and maintenance, engineering project manager for rotary forge project and assistant project manager and mechanical project leader on the hot rolling mill project. David was an incorporator and served as president of the Steelers Fellowship Club. In 1990 he came out of retirement and became plant engineer for Bowman Hat Company, Adamstown and after 16 years he retired a second time in 2006. David was a Facebook aficionado he also loved reading books on history and loved quizzing kids. He was known as a great story teller and his favorite holiday was Christmas and would be seen in his Santa hat.
David is survived by his wife Mary and three sons Randy S. Wails of Reading, Kevin L. Wails of Sinking Spring and Christopher C. Wails of Exeter. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and a brother John M. Wails of West Lawn. David was preceded in death by his sister Kathryn (Wails) Kline.
A viewing will be held Sunday April 9, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 Main Street, Fleetwood. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 PM.
