Donna J. Burkert, age 61, of Fleetwood, passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2016 in M. S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. She was the wife of William D. Burkert. They celebrated 41 years of marriage on September 14th.
Donna was born on September 16, 1954 in West Reading. The daughter of the late George "Sonny" Fick and Dorothy (Manwiller) Fick.
She graduated from Oley Valley High School in 1972, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and class president. She was a talented all - county athlete in several sports.
Donna worked for the former Western Electric/AT&T/ Lucent/Agere in Reading, for about twenty-five years, retiring in 2001. For the last four years she enjoyed caring for her grandson.
Her hobbies were her flower gardens, keeping her house neat, clean and decorated in her style. She was an excellent cook and baker. Donna was always a Phillies fan but in recent years she became a football fan and rooted for Penn State and the Eagles. She enjoyed her camp in the Adirondacks where she loved hiking, canoeing and bird watching. Donna loved the country and took many trips to rural settings in the United States. Her other interest was reading and she always had a book going. She also enjoyed playing Hasenpfeffer, particularly with her cousins.
Donna is survived by her husband William D. Burkert, son Brian Burkert husband of Lori Burkert of Blandon and her beloved grandson Daniel J. Burkert. Also surviving is a sister Janice D. (Fick) Tothero of Temple.
A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Thursday 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by funeral services from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc. 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Burial will be in Zion Spies Cemetery.
