Dorothy Meek Word died on Sunday, November 17, 2013, in the Alzheimer's Care unit of the Lutheran Home at Topton. She was 84 years old. Born in Miami, Oklahoma on March 17, 1929 to the late Lloyd and Iva Meek, she spent most of her life in Texas. She was the widow of Charles "Charlie" Word, who died in 1994.
She graduated from Santa Fe High School, Alta Loman, TX in 1947. Dorothy worked many years as an office manager for various companies in Galveston and Dallas, Texas. After moving to Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1967, she concentrated on her family and her passion for sewing. In retirement, she and Charlie moved back to Texas, settling in Tyler. In her later years, she returned to Pennsylvania, where she lived with her daughter Susan and her family and enjoyed traveling and being involved in the lives of her granddaughters. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the United Methodist church where she was an active member for many years.
Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt. She is survived by four children: Harry Evelt and his wife Julie, Houston, Texas; Brenda E. Innocenti and her husband Gerard, Breinigsville, Pennsylvania; Susan Pors and her husband William, Fleetwood, Pennsylvania; and Michael Word and his wife Marion, Paris, France; and two stepsons, Charles Word, San Diego, California and William Word, Dallas, Texas. Her nine grandchildren include Melissa and Matthew Evelt; Jennifer, Kristen and Lisa Pors; and Hamilton, Ludovic, Vincent and Mathilde Word. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her brothers, Glen, Louis, and Donald Meek and sisters, Velma King and Sally Lilley
A viewing will be held Wednesday afternoon from 3:00PM to 4:00 PM at the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Funeral services will follow at 4:00PM. A graveside burial ceremony will be held Saturday November 23, 2013, in Tyler, Texas.
