Duane S. Kurzweg, age 56, of Fleetwood, passed on Friday September 21, 2012 in Reading Hospital Medical Center. Husband of Robin J. (Maeder) Kurzweg they would have been married 34 years in November.
Born in Reading, the son of Betty (Schade) Kurzweg, Fleetwood and the John F. Kurzweg.
He was a graduate of Fleetwood High School class of 1973.
Duane is the owner of Fleetwood Auto Service, Fleetwood. He started working for the auto service at age16, while still in school. In 1994 he purchased the business from Neil Ludwig, dedicating over forty years of service. He loved drag racing at Maple Grove Raceway and in 1981 was the track champion for Heavy Eliminator. At one point in his racing, he was joined by his father and son and all three would race at the track. He also loved motorcycling, snowmobiling and four wheeling.
Duane, was a member of Zion Moselem Lutheran Church in Richmond Township where he had served as a past church council member. He also served as a commissioner for Boy Scout Troop 183 in Blandon and was a member of Fleetwood Fish and Game Association.
Survived by his wife, mother also survived by his daughter Marci J Prutzer wife of Karl Prutzer of Sinking Spring and son Kristofer S. Kurzweg engaged to Abby Oswald of Fleetwood. Also four grandchildren Gabe A. Prutzer, Gavin K. Prutzer, Julia J. Prutzer and Logan B. Kurzweg. Other survivors include a sister Kim R. (Kurzweg) wife of Rodger Hess of New Holland, Lancaster County and two nephews Matthew Hess, Matthew Maeder and a niece Stephanie Hess.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday September 25th from 5:00 pm to 8:00pm at the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc. 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am Wednesday September 26th at Zion Moselem Lutheran Church, 340 Moselem Church Road, Kutztown.
