Eli Kenneth Herbein, age 81, formerly of Eagle Road, Richmond Township, passed away on July 31st in Kutztown Manor. He was the husband of the late Florence D. (Roshorn) Herbein who passed on November 22, 2009. At that time they were married 56 years.
Born on February 14, 1934 in Reading, the son of the late Eli K. Herbein and Edith (Matthews) Herbein,
He was a graduate of Reading High School.
Eli had worked at Acme Markets for 32 years retiring as a manager in 1980. During his retirement he started a business Ken's Remodeling and ran that business for 15 years closing in 1995. He then delivered newspapers for the Reading Eagle in the Virginville area.
Ken loved to garden and was a very successful at playing bingo.
He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and great grandfather who loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters Cynthia L. (Herbein) wife of David Kienle of Fleetwood, Diane L. Herbein of Fleetwood and Beverly A. (Herbein) wife of Herbert Gerhart of Newmanstown. He has three grandchildren Kristina L. (Kienle) wife of Youssef Fahim of Fleetwood, Daniel E. Kienle husband of Anne Kienle of West Lawn and David K. Kienle husband of Heather Kienle of Temple, Also five great grandchildren Yasmeen A. Fahim, Daliah Fahim, Nadia Fahim, John Eli Kienle, and James Kienle. Other survivors include a sister Nancy L. (Herbein) wife of Larry Smith of Ocean View, DE, brother Terry A. Herbein husband of Kitty Herbein of Wyomissing and brother David M. Herbein husband of Dorothy Herbein of Wyomissing.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday August 4th at 12:00 Noon in the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. A viewing will be held 11;00 AM to time of service. Burial will follow in Oley Cemetery, Spangsville.
