Frank A. "Doc' Szoke, age 91, of Fleetwood, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Keystone Villa at Fleetwood surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Sadie L. (Gilmore) Szoke, they celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Born in Coplay, on June 22, 1925, he was the son of the late Stephen Szoke and Julia (Rasky) Szoke.
Doc was a graduate of Ontelaunee Vocational School, Leesport class of 1943. He was a U S Navy veteran of World War II.
Frank worked at the former NGK Berylco Corporation, Reading for 35 years retiring in 1983.
He was a member of Becker's St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Molltown where his singing of hymn's could be heard on most Sundays.
Frank loved golf, playing from the time he was a youth and only stopping when he could no longer shoot his age. Doc was a fixture at Rich Maiden Golf Course and over the years won many amateur tournaments. His legacy was 18 sets of golf clubs and 9 holes-in-one. During the winter Doc was a bowler.
Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his siblings.
Doc is survived by his wife Sadie and two daughters Linda R. (House) Reichardt of Fleetwood and Sherie R. (House) Weber of Fleetwood. Frank is also survived by three grandchildren Kelly S. (Waters) Brzezicki, R. Scott Waters and James W. Weber. He is also survived by three great grandchildren – Austin J. Brzezicki, Drew T. Waters, and Elizabeth A. Waters.
Other survivors are his brother Alex J. Szoke of Fleetwood; sisters Edie (Szoke) Haller of Blandon, and Eleanor (Szoke) Roberts of Fleetwood. In addition, he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Stephen Szoke, Bertha (Szoke) Sommers, Lena (Szoke) Hacker, and Julie (Szoke) Benz.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 11:30 AM with an hour viewing prior to the service at Becker's St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 265 Maidencreek Road, Fleetwood. Burial will be private on Thursday at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
