Fleetwood Mayor, Gary Dale Ebeling, 68, of Fleetwood passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012 at
Hospice of Lancaster County, surrounded by his family.
Gary was the husband of Joan (Braucher) Ebeling, with whom he shared 46 years of
marriage.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 15, 1943, he was the son of the late Harry I. and Hazel (Gring) Ebeling. He is survived by his daughters; Kelly E., wife of Joel C. Schaeffer and Susan A., wife of John P. Gerhard. Grandchildren; Midshipman Lauren A. Moyer, Keaton C. Moyer, Jacob H. Gerhard, John S. Gerhard, Heidi Luckenbill, Amanda Schaeffer and Alexa Schaeffer.
Gary is also survived by his brothers; Glen W. Ebeling of Topton, PA and Greg M. Ebeling of Oley, PA, and sister-in-law, Nancy (Braucher) Seiwell of Fleetwood.
Gary served in the US Army from 1964-1972. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army.
Reserves. He worked 45 years in the printing industry, retiring from Grafika Commercial
Printing as Vice President in Charge of Production.
Gary dedicated his life to community service, especially within the borough of Fleetwood. Throughout his life he was involved with many organizations, including:
Mayor of Fleetwood for the past 11 years, Fleetwood Borough Council from 1976 to 2001, Vice President of Fleetwood Borough Council for 23 years, President of the Horace Kieffer American Legion Post #625 Home Association, President of Sportsmen Association of Fleetwood for 25 years, .President of the Fleetwood
Council Community Organization (FCCO) for 25 years, Past President of Breakfast
Brothers, Past President of the Baseball Association and active in the Little League for 15
years. He was also past President of the Fleetwood Area Music Association, served as
Vice President of the Fleetwood Medical Center Board, Past President of the Berks
County Printing Association, member of the Fleetwood Fire Company for over 25 years
and was recently honored with their Lifetime Achievement Award.
Gary was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Fleetwood. As a member he
served on various committees.
Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 117 East Arch Street, Fleetwood, PA. A viewing will be Tuesday evening, May 29, 2012 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 9:00AM – 11:00AM. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
As per Gary and his family, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fleetwood
Fire Company Scholarship Fund, 311 Spring St., Fleetwood or the Fleetwood Area Music
Assocation Scholarship Fund at 1003 Forest Street, Fleetwood, PA 19522.
