Obituary

After a valiant five-year battle with cancer and seven-year battle with a chronic form of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, Gayle completed her earthly journey in the early morning hours of March 8 at Penn State St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, PA.

Gayle was born in Palmerton, PA, the daughter of William E. Weyhenmeyer (d. 1966) and Ferne J. (Osenbach) Weyhenmeyer (d. 2000), and the sister of Willa B. Weyhenmeyer (d. 1964).

A proud Zebra, Gayle was a graduate of New Brunswick High School, New Brunswick, NJ.

A woman of many talents both professionally and personally, Gayle was employed by Grand Union Co. at locations throughout Central NJ for 11 years; Princeton Cablevision/Storer Cable in Plainsboro, NJ for 2 years; and the law firm of McCarthy & Schatzman in Princeton, NJ for 7 years. After starting a family and relocating to Blandon, PA in 1989, she continued legal secretarial work in Reading, PA before providing home-based child daycare for nearly 30 years, teaching and nurturing many children and realizing a lifelong dream to be a teacher.

As a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fleetwood, PA, Gayle co-organized and taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. In later years she joined Trinity Lutheran Church, Kutztown, PA.

Gayle was the founder of an international affinity group on Facebook for West Highland White Terriers and as the leader, was affectionately known as "Lady Gayle" among the members. She was predeceased by three of her own Westies – Maggie, Webster, and Gabbie.

Gayle was known for her strength of character and will, assertiveness, intelligence, decorating, cooking, baking, event planning, hosting, and going all-out, with a personal touch, in everything she did.

Her proudest accomplishment and greatest source of joy was raising her son Brett, by whom she is survived, along with daughter-in-law Anita (Lin), grandson Tyler, a granddaughter not yet born, cousins Jeff Gerber (AZ) and Dave Leymeister (TX), and a Westie named Maxie.

A memorial service honoring Gayle will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kutztown, PA on Saturday, March 29, at 11:00 a.m. All in attendance are encouraged to wear Gayle's favorite color, navy blue. Burial will take place privately in advance at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick, NJ.
