Obituary

George (Chips) Francis Gross Jr., 79, passed on Friday, November 3rd, 2023.

George graduated from Penn State Berks Campus with the highest of honors, securing him his career with Bell Lab, reading Branch. George worked for Bell labs as a Diagnostic Member of the Technical Staff for microelectronics engineering for 32 years; accruing an impressive 15+ patents for the company. He was founding member of a start – up company, Micromesh and also worked as a consultant.

George loved playing softball with his constituents. He couldn't wait to play basketball, receiving 3 concussions for his efforts. He rode trailbikes and 3 – wheelers, performing tricks and blatantly showing off to bystanders who would egg him on. His father taught him pistol target shooting and he was rewarded the title of a sharp shooter.

He married in 1962 to Christina D. Schmehl, his wife of 61 years. They had 3 children: daughter, Justina D. Gross – Haas, wife of Bruce: son, George C. gross, husband of Aimee; daughter, Alexandria D. Hamm, wife of Robert. George is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A memorial will be held at the family's discretion.
