Obituary

George F. Mayer, age 79, of Fleetwood, passed away on Monday April 9, 2018 in his residence. He was the husband of the late Barbara A. (Schollenberger) Mayer  who passed on May 25, 2005.

Born in Richmond Township the son of the late Paul M. Mayer and Alice L. (Dries) Mayer.

He had worked at Allentown Portland Cement, Evansville retiring in 2006. While working he had been financial secretary for Local 54 United Cement, Lime Gypsum Workers International Union. He previously worked at the former Pinnacle Equipment Corporation and Red Cheek Incorporation both in Fleetwood. After his retirement he worked at Rich Maiden Golf Course. As a youth he lived next to the course and golf became his passion. While in Fleetwood High School he played in the 1957 PIAA Golf Tournament finishing in fourth place.  As an adult he won the Merkel Memorial Tournament thirteen times. With his partner Wayne Shade they won the BCGA Senior Partner Tournament in 1998.

Living in Fleetwood he was a founding member of the Fleetwood Little League where he served from its start in 1967 to 1992.  A member of the Fleetwood Booster Club and Breakfast Brothers. George was also a past Fleetwood Borough council member.

George is survived by his children Michael D. Mayer husband of Sharon Mayer, Kenneth G. Mayer husband of Kathy Mayer, Glenn A. Mayer husband of Tricia Mayer and Nancy L. (Mayer) wife of Wayne Gollie. Also eleven grandchildren Jaime (Mayer) wife of James Arnold, Casey Mayer husband of Grace Mayer, Chad Mayer, Ryan Mayer husband of Courtney Mayer, Kayla Mayer companion of Dave Schneider, Rachel Mayer, Michelle Mayer, Benjamin Mayer, Alec Mayer, Kevin Gollie and Erin Gollie and seven great grandchildren Abigail Arnold, Amanda Arnold, Jackson Mayer, Chase Mayer, Coby Mayer and Ainsley Mayer.

Other survivors are siblings Robert Mayer, Donald Mayer husband of Barbara Mayer, Bernice (Mayer) wife of Joseph Benz, Dennis Mayer husband of Charlanne Mayer, Carol (Mayer) wife of Bruce Nattress, Carl Mayer , husband of Donna Mayer, David Mayer, Cheryl (Mayer) Bretz, Gail (Mayer) Kopicz  companion of Michael Davis, Dale Mayer husband of Bobbi Ann Mayer, and Ronald Mayer husband of Ann Mayer. Sister in laws Patricia Mayer and Bonnie Mayer. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by great grandson Carson Travis Mayer, brother Paul Mayer, brother Daniel Mayer, sister in law Irene Mayer, sister in law Catherine Ann (Schollenberger) Wanner and brother in law Robert Wanner.

A viewing will be on Saturday April 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5 West Arch Street, Fleetwood. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be private in Fleetwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the George F. Mayer Memorial Fund, P. O.
