George F. Schofer, age 89 of Topton, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 in his residence at The Lutheran Home at Topton. He was the husband of Sally Ann (Meck) Schofer, they celebrated 68 years of marriage.

George was born in Topton the son of the late John G. Schofer and Minnie C. (Dierolf) Schofer.

He graduated from Kutztown High School in the class of 1947. After high school he attended Muhlenberg College followed by Eckels Mortuary School in Philadelphia. He started working in the family business Schofer Funeral Home, Topton and J. J. Schofer & Son Furniture Store in 1947.  In 1948 he joined Pennsylvania National Guard serving four years. From 1951 to 1952 he served active duty in the U S Army. With the passing of his father the funeral home name changed to George F. Schofer Funeral Home and he partnered with his brother Jacob in the furniture business. In 1993 he and his brother closed the business's and retired.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Topton and  the Huguenot Lodge No. 377 F&AM, Kutztown.. For many years he was a member of the Topton Lions Club and a committee member of Topton Boy Scout Troop 510. He was a volunteer at The Lutheran Home at Topton  for many years.

George is survived by his wife Sally and children John G. Schofer, Daniel G. Schofer, Andrew T. Schofer and Ellen L. (Schofer) Kiffer married to Will Kiffer, George's favorite son in – law. Also surviving are grandchildren Joel Schofer, Jarad Schofer, Jeremy Schofer. Anthony Schofer, Jessica Schofer Trainor, Matthew Schofer and Jacob Schofer, Caleb Kiffer, Micah Kiffer, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Jacob J. Schofer.
