Harry Lance, age 83, of Fleetwood, PA, passed away on December 21, 2015 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Hospice Center, Allentown, where he was a patient for several months. His residence was on Poplar Street in Fleetwood.
Harry was born in Washington, NJ on January 24, 1932 to the late Harry Valentine Lance and Bessie (Morgan) Lance.
Born into a farming family, he succeeded his parents as a dairy farmer. He later left farming to pursue a career in the steel industry where he was a union member along with his fellow employees.
During his time in farming and industrial work, he pursued his ultimate dream of becoming a race car driver and could be found racing every weekend at Harmony Speedway and Flemington Speedway in New Jersey and Nazareth Speedway in PA. During this time he proudly accomplished second in point championships and always qualified for the feature race.
Harry later moved to PA where he dedicated his work to the Fleetwood Shirt Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1997.
Harry enjoyed fishing, camping and outdoor activities. His other interests were listening to country music and spending time with his dogs. In his later years he adopted many cats. He was also known for his sense of humor, especially his practical jokes. Harry was most proud of his children and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by six children Harry Lance, Jr., husband of Kathy Lance; Gail (Lance) Greth; Debra (Lance) Lord Leppert, wife of Richard Leppert; Thomas Lance, husband of Kimberly Lance; Diane (Lance) Smith, wife of Christopher Smith; all of Fleetwood and Julie (Lance) Shahan, wife of Dawson "Sam" Shahan of Delaware. He was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a step-granddaughter.
Other survivors include sisters Bertha Lauber of Phillipsburg, NJ, Bessie Sinclair and Cecilia Honey both of Easton, PA.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Proctor, Rhoda Hall and Rose Thorpe.
A viewing will be Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM followed by funeral service at 11:30 AMat the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Rev. Patrick W.
