Irwin M. Kohler," Irvy", "Pop" age 89, of Fleetwood, passed away on October 3, 2014 in his residence. He was the husband of the Mabel A. (Noll) Kohler who passed on July 19, 1998.
Born on August 11, 1925 in Krumsville, the son of the late Arthur P. Kohler and Agnes (Rothermel) Kohler.
Irvy was schooled in Kutztown and at the age of 18 joined the U S Army during World War IIand served with the 20th Armored Division from 1943 to 1946. During this time he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and helped liberate Dachau Concentration Camp. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star and World War II Victory Medal.
He had worked at Carpenter Technology, Reading for 361/2 years where he worked as a mill hand in the hand rolling mill. He previously worked at Kutztown Foundry as a molder for 10 years.
Irwin was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ Fleetwood. He was a free mason of Huguenot Lodge 377 F&AM, Kutztown. He also was a member of AASR Valley of Reading 32 degree mason and a member of the Rajah Shrine. Other memberships include being a life member of American Legion Post 625, Reading Chapter #64 Battle of the Bugle, Grundseau Lodge 15 Kutztown and the oldest member of the Walnuttown Fish and Game Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.
Irvy was a devoted father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family.
Irwin is survived by his daughter Sharon M. (Kohler) Smith, Kutztown and son Irwin A. Kohler, Fleetwood. Also four grandchildren Mikal, Vicki, Tabetha and Christopher and ten great grandchildren Rece, Jarod, Samantha, Frederick II, Kaitlynn, Hunter, Jade, Forrest, Zachary, MacKenzie. He also has a sister Eleanor (Kohler) Catherman of Mohrsville. He was preceded in death by two brothers Ernest Kohler and Sterling Kohler
A funeral service will be held Wednesday October 8th at 11:00 AM in St. Paul's UCC, 5 West Arch Street, Fleetwood. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the church with Masonic Services at 8:00 PM. A viewing will be from 10:00AM Wednesday to time of service at the church. Burial will follow services at St. Paul's Union Cemetery.
