John R. Hawkins, 57, of Fleetwood passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Bern Township.
He and his wife, Joyce M. (Rent-schler) Hawkins, recently celebrated 34 years of marriage.

Born in Reading, he was the son of Robert L. Hawkins, Fleetwood, and the late Lucille J. (Homan) Hawkins.

He was a graduate of Fleetwood High School Class of 1972 and Lincoln Technical Institute, Allentown.

He was employed by Sunsweet Growers, Inc., Fleetwood, and the former Red Cheek Inc. for the last 34 years.

John was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served as a past church council member. He was a member of the Fleetwood Volunteer Fire Company Truck Crew and Ambulance Crew, Breakfast Brothers, and the Fleetwood Jaycees.

John enjoyed helping his daughter and son in-law run the Grand Central Tap Room in Fleetwood. He also hosted three exchange students from Switzerland and Norway through the EF Foundation, Cambridge, MA. He was a fan of NASCAR and the New York Jets.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and daughter, Lisa M. (Hawkins), wife of Kevin Padnes, of Fair Haven, NJ.

Also surviving are brothers: Keith J., husband of Diane Hawkins, Hamburg; Mark P. Hawkins, Fleetwood; and Robert L. Jr., husband of Tina Hawkins, Fleetwood; and a sister, Allison M. (Hawkins), wife of Christopher Tienken, Spring Lake, NJ; eight aunts and uncles and 17 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Corie Jo Hawkins.

Services will be at noon on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 117 East Arch Street, Fleetwood. A viewing will be from 10 a.m. to time of service at the church. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens.
