John I. Spencer (80) of Reading, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20th, 2023.  John was married for 59 years to his loving wife, Joanne M. (Wertman) Spencer.  Born in West Reading, John was the son of the late Stephen S. Spencer and Clara H. (Berry) Spencer.

John was a graduate of Reading High School.  He served in the United States Army and was a veteran in the Vietnam War.  John was the owner of J.I. Spencer Painting and Sandblasting and Beeline Rentals.  Both businesses were located in Reading, PA.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He enjoyed collecting cars, boats, being at the river with friends, and loved spending the winter in Jupiter, FL with his wife and friends.  His hobby was building and flying model airplanes at the Kutztown Aerodrome R C Squadron.

John is survived by his son Joseph S. Spencer husband of Brenda A. (Weinrich) Spencer.  He has four grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler, Sheldon, and Samantha. He is also survived by his brother, James Spencer of Bonita Springs, FL. John is preceded in death by sister Dorothy (Spencer) Wilkinson.

Funeral services will be private, with burial in Hope Cemetery.
