Obituary

Leona K. Rothermel, 89, of Blandon, passed away Tuesday August 6, 2013 in Kutztown Manor. Prior to her stay at Kutztown Manor she resided with her niece Judy M. Keller. She was the wife of the late John S. Rothermel who passed in 1965.
She was the daughter of the late Irvin B. Keller and Elsie V. (Smith) Keller
Leona worked at various hosiery mills during her early years of employment. She later worked as a stacker at Prestolite Batteries and retired in 1985. After several years of retirement, Leona went back to work at Wal-Mart as a greeter. When she retired in 2008 after 17 years, she was oldest employee working at Wal-Mart stores in Berks County and had the most Longevity. She always enjoyed greeting and talking to the customers and their children.
Once retired, Leona became more active in Maidencreek Church, Blandon, where she was a member of the Sunday school, prayer committee and helped prepare the monthly newsletter for mailing. Leona was also a member Blandon Senior Citizens and looked forward to attending their meetings and going on day trips with her good friend Dolly (Pearl) Shuman. She also enjoyed her weekly outings with Fayne Kendrick and her family – husband Les and their children Brian and Kayla Biszmaier. Leona always remained active and loved going for long drives in the country, shopping and traveling to the shore.
Saturday's were very special, she would go out for breakfast with Judy and her significant other Don Cramer and his parents Emily and Wilson Cramer. She always said breakfast was her favorite meal of the day. Leona then accompanied Judy and Don wherever their travels took them for the day.
Leona is survived by a sister Annetta S. Hess widow of Carl J. Hess of Blandon.and a brother, Kenneth A. Keller married to Rosa Letta (Stoudt) Keller of Fleetwoo. In addition Leona has nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Friday August 9th in Maidencreek Church, 261 Main Street, Blandon. A viewing will be from 10:00 AM till time of service. In addition to flowers contributions may be made in Leona's honor to Maidencreek Church. online at Maidencreek Church.org or mailed to above address. Burial will follow in Maidencreek Cemetery
