Obituary

LeRoy D. "Freddie" Frederick, age 86, of Fleetwood, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 in St. Joseph's Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Sarah J. (Aulenbach) Frederick who passed on September 22, 1998.
Freddie was born on January 9, 1928 in Fleetwood, he was the son of the late Charles Frederick and Victoria (Heffner) Frederick.
He graduated from Fleetwood High School Class of 1945. Where he was known for playing basketball. In his senior year he was team leader in points scored and the team went on to become Eastern League Champs. After high school he played many years on the Fleetwood Rec Basketball team. He loved sports and would travel to Philadelphia for pro basketball and baseball games. Even though he was a Cardinals fan.
LeRoy worked at the Lehigh Portland Cement plant in Evansville for forty years. After his retirement he became the custodian for the new Community Center in Fleetwood and spent many years in service. The fact that the community center had a gym he rekindled his love of basketball and started to participate in the Commonwealth Senior Games where he won yearly medals for his shooting abilities, last competing in 2010.
Freddie loved being with his family and attending sporting events with them. His daily exercise routine would be riding his bike around town and stopping to talk to people.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fleetwood, The Breakfast Brothers, Fleetwood Grange and the Reading Berks Basketball Old Timers.
Freddie is survived by his two daughters Sharon L. (Frederick) wife of Michael Mayer of Fleetwood and Laurie J. Frederick of California, MD. Also grandchildren Jaime M. (Mayer) wife of James Arnold, Casey F. Mayer, Chad M. Mayer husband of Nicole Cocci – Mayer. Two great grandchildren Abigail S. Arnold and Amanda E. Arnold.
Other survivors include many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ernest Frederick, Earl Frederick and Elsie (Frederick) Miller.
Funeral service will be Monday January 20th at 10:30AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 117 East Arch Street, Fleetwood. Viewings will be Sunday evening 6:00PM to 8:00 PM and Monday 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
