Obituary
Lincoln L. DeHart, age 93, of Fleetwood, passed away on Monday July 13, 2015 in the Reading Hospital Medical Center. He was the husband of Pearl B. (Neiswender) DeHart they celebrated 42 years of marriage on September 16th. His first wife Vera (Gurtacker) DeHart passed in 1965.
Born on April 28, 1922, in Reading. He was the son of the late Arthur DeHart and Pearl (Hoshauer) DeHart. He was graduate of Shillington High School Class of 1940. Drafted on December 17, 1942 he served in U S Army 102nd Infantry Division in the European theater of operations.
After the war he worked for Carpenter Steel from 1946 to 1953 when he was hired by American Casualty Insurance Company. He became manager of the Assigned Risk Department, retiring in 1984 after 30 years. From 1989 to 2013 he worked as courier for the Fleetwood Bank.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fleetwood where he served on council and took care of the church grounds for ten years.
He helped form the Berks County Umpires Association in 1952 Served as commissioner from 1963 to 1965 and from 1976 to 1984 he spent 56 years in the organization. He also was commissioner of umpires for Berks County Interscholastic Athletic Associaton, scheduling girls high school officials for 26 years. He also officiated for Sunners in 1974 when they were World Champions.
He bowled in Berks County Major League for 25 years and was Berks County Events champion in 1949. He served as a director and secretary of the Tarsus Manor Senior Housing Partnership in Fleetwood from 1982 to 2014.
Survived by his wife Pearl and his son Lincoln L. DeHart, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama. Also surviving are two grandsons Michael DeHart and Matthew DeHart and three great grandsons and one great granddaughter. Other survivors include a sister Mildred (DeHart) Crimmins of Temple. He was preceded in death by his sisters Ellen (DeHart) Mengel, Esther (DeHart) Sponsel and brothers Earl Dehart and Willard DeHart.
A viewing will be held Thursday morning 10:00 am to 11:00am followed by funeral services at 11:00 am from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 117 East Arch Street, Fleetwood. Burial will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Greater Berks Food Bank, 117 Morgan Drive, Reading, PA 19608.
