Fleetwood

Marlin R. Sanders, 85, of Fleetwood, passed away on Wednesday, December 3rd at Reading Hospital.

He was the loving husband of Elin (Williams) Sanders; they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on December 17th. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Karen, partner of Chris Strohm, Fleetwood; Brenda, wife of Jeffrey Lyon, Hailey, Idaho; and Michael (Mick), husband of Mindi Sanders, Ken Caryl, Colorado.

Marlin is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Anika Lyon, Zane Lyon, and Gavin Sanders, as well as his siblings Nancy Schegel, Allen Sanders, Deborah Baniszeski, and Bonnie Loy.

He is predeceased by his grandson Ian Sanders; his parents, Russell and Carrie Sanders; and his sisters Betty Gruber and Doris Gift.

Marlin was a 1958 graduate of Fleetwood High School, where he proudly played soccer, basketball, and baseball. He was employed by General Battery Corporation (Exide) for 44 years, retiring in 2002.

A lifelong supporter of youth athletics, Marlin coached Fleetwood Little League during the 1960s and 1980s, and also coached youth soccer in the 1980s. Known for his warmth and friendly nature, Marlin loved the outdoors and could often be found on his daily walks or bike rides around Fleetwood, always taking time to stop and talk with neighbors and friends. Another of his favorite pastimes was sitting under his oak tree with a book-always keeping an extra chair nearby for anyone who wished to join him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of the remarkable life Marlin lived.
