Marvin F. Burkert, Sr. age 72, Fleetwood, passed away on Saturday September 10, 2011 at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Bern Township. The husband of Barbara L. (Barlet) Burkert.
Born in Richmond Township he was the son of the late Lloyd Burkert and Lovie (Phillips) Burkert.
Marvin had worked as a tool and dye maker at the former Caloric Coporation, Topton. Last working for the former Eastern Millwork, St. Lawrence.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962.
Marvin's interests and hobbies included fishing, hunting, bear watching, going to casinos, playing Texas Hold'Em, traveling the world, RVing, going to car shows. He was an avid street rodder, enjoyed golfing, bowling and attending Berks Encore - Fleetwood
Surviving are his wife Barbara, son Sid Barlet husband of Cay Barlet, Fleetwood, daughter Susan (Burkert) wife of Patrick Murphy, Fleetwood and son Marvin Burkert, Jr. husband of Nancy Burkert, Hamburg. Five grandchildren Joshua Barlet, Fleetwood, Christopher Burkert and Troy Burkert of Hamburg, Jason Burkert and Rebecca Burkert of Leesport.
Also surviving are three sisters Shirley (Burkert) Frazer, Blandon, Mary Ann (Burkert) Aulenbach, Fleetwood and Nancy (Burkert) Sterley of Sinking Spring
Preceded in death by two sons Timothy Burkert and Michael Burkert. Also a brother Lloyd William Burkert.
Services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday September 15, 2011 at the Mae A Stump Funeral Home Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood . A viewing will be Wednesday evening 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the funeral home and Thursday from 10:00am to time of service. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood.
