Mary Ellen Heffner, age 75, of Fleetwood, passed away on Thursday November 30, 2017 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of Wilson R. Heffner, they celebrated 55 years of marriage on March 3rd.
Born on October 5, 1942 in Fleetwood, the daughter of the late Alvin F. Ohlinger and Ida D. (Conrad) Ohlinger.
Mary was a member of Christ Mertz Lutheran Church, Fleetwood. She was a long time fair exhibitor, receiving many awards and ribbons from various fairs. At the Oley Fair she was co-chairperson for the sheep and goat competitions.
She was a passed leader of the Berks County 4-H Club. She was the current treasurer for the Dana Retirees SOAR group.
She enjoyed crafting, quilting, sewing, going to ENCORE, playing bingo and going shopping. Mary loved baking and was known for apple dumplings and doughnuts. She especially enjoyed spending time and caring for her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband Wilson and children Ronald A. Heffner husband of Marjorie A. Heffner, Fleetwood; Elaine L. (Heffner) wife of Stephen Bleiler of Fleetwood: Glenn W. Heffner husband of Christina Heffner of Fleetwood and Joyce I. (Heffner) wife of Jeffrey Walters of Fleetwood. Grandchildren Zachary, Stephen J., Phillip D., Tyler J., Matthew T., Leah R. and Krystal L. and great grandchildren Liam D., Sasha, Graesyn J.. Also step grandchildren Michael and Heather and step great grandson Bennett M.
Other survivors are sister Elsie V. (Ohlinger) Hawkins of Fleetwood and Nathan A. Ohlinger of Mertztown.
Mary was preceded in death by son James R. Heffner in 1986 and granddaughter Julia R. Walters in 2003.
A viewing will be Wednesday evening December 6th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. A second viewing is Thursday December 7 th at Christ Mertz Lutheran Church, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Gernant's Cemetery, Leesport.
