November 23, 1941 – January 4, 2019
Melvin D. Bailey, 77 of Ontelaunee Township, passed away in his residence on Friday, January 4, 2019. He was the husband of the late Kathleen D. (Worrell) Bailey who passed in 2009.
Born in Richmond Township he was the son of the late Lloyd Bailey and Mary (Yeager) Bailey. Mel was a graduate of Fleetwood High School class of 1959.
A U S Army veteran of the Vietnam era,
Mel was a cabinet maker for the former Quaker Maid Kitchens, Leesport for 35 years, where he served on the union executive board. After the closing of Quaker Maid he joined Threshold Rehabilitation Services, Reading. Since 2011 to the present he has been working for Fleetwood Bank in Fleetwood. He also had served on the water board for Ontelaunee Township.
Mel loved trap shooting and was a member of Perry Gun Club and Kempton Gun Club where he won many prizes. He enjoyed going concerts and never missed a Reading Buccaneers or a Reading Symphony concert.
He loved wood working projects, hunting and especially planting flower gardens.
Melvin, is survived by his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mel was predeceased by his siblings Alfred Bailey, Charles Bailey and Mary (Bailey) Gruber.
A viewing will be on Saturday January 12th from 10:00a.m. to11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Burial will be in Becker's St. Peter's Cemetery, Richmond Township.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in memory of Melvin to either the Perry Township Game Association, 1425 Moselem Springs Road, Hamburg, PA 19526 or Kempton Rod & Gun Club, 192 Pine Creek Road, Kempton, PA 19526.
