Melvin B. "Sonny" Hertzog, age 73, of Fleetwood passed away August 18, 2011 surrounded by his family in the Reading Hospital Medical Center, West Reading.
He was the Husband of Patricia A. (Noll) Hertzog they had been married 49 years in June.
Born in Blandon the son of the late John W. and Alberta S. (Becker) Hertzog.
He had been a member of the former Salem Shalter's U. C. C. Alsace Township and currently attending Bausman Memorial UCC Wyomissing.
Melvin had worked at the former Hopper Paper Co. a division of Georgia Pacific for 30 years. He also had worked for American General life Ins. Co. and last working at Sam's Club.
He was an avid sports fan and loved the Phillies, Eagles and NASCAR. His favorite actor was John Wayne in the movie "The Searchers". He was known as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Melvin is survived by his wife Patricia a daughter Karen L. Hertzog, Fleetwood and son Michael D. Hertzog husband of Karen A. (Freeman) Hertzog of Wyomissing. Two grandchildren Nathan C. Hertzog and Natalie A. Hertzog both of Wyomissing.
Also surviving are two sisters Phyllis A. (Hertzog) Himmelberger of Krumsville and Terri L. (Hertzog) wife of Elmer Lawson of Topton. Two uncles Clair Becker, Fleetwood and Russell Becker of Blandon.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 AM from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be Friday evening 7:00PM to 9:00PM at the funeral home.
