Melvin D. Hottenstein, age 67, of Topton, passed away on November 26, 2016 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Jean E. (Leibensperger) Hottenstein, with whom he celebrated 43 years of marriage on December 22nd.
Born on March 19, 1949 in Richmond Township, he was the son of the late Morris E. Hottenstein, Sr. and Mabel I. (Conrad) Hottenstein.
He attended Fleetwood High School.
Melvin had been employed by East Penn Manufacturing as a foreman for 17 years and 23 years at Boyertown Foundry retiring in 2014.
He loved the outdoors and spending time at the hunting camp, where he enjoyed hunting bear and deer. He loved winter for it was time to butcher and make scrapple. His other interest were traveling and in retirement helping his sons Jeff and Mike in their business's.
He is survived by his wife Jean and children Troy Hottenstein husband of Tonya Hottenstein of Fleetwood; Michael Hottenstein husband of Lindsay Hottenstein, Fleetwood; Jeffrey Hottenstein husband of Jesi Hottenstein of Kutztown and Tracy (Hottenstein) wife of Dale Gangaway of Reading. Also step children Connie (Long ) Derr of Lehighton; Donna (Geist) Dartouzos of Bethlehem and Brian Geist husband of Claudia Geist of Buford, Georgia. Grandchildren Alyssa Hottenstein, Brittany Hottenstein, Courtney Hottenstein, Heather Graeff, Krystal Gangaway, Austin Hottenstein, Jaylynn Hottenstein, Gavin Hottenstein , Samantha Hottenstein. Step grandchildren Katie Knopf, Jenna Derr, Victoria Geist , Ericka Geist and Matthew Geist. Five great grandchildren and Three step great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters Ida M. (Hottenstein) Sands of Fleetwood, Irene A. (Hottenstein) Moyer of Fleetwood and sister in-law Joyce A. (Turns) Hottenstine, Fleetwood. He also has numerous nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his siblings Morris E. Hottenstein, Jr., William H. Hottenstein and Elsie M. (Hottenstein) Stitzel.
A viewing will be Wednesday evening from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. A second viewing will be Thursday from 10:00AM to 11:00am followed by funeral services. Burial will be in St. John's Gernant's Cemetery, Ontelaunee Township
