Melvin W. Oyler, age 95, of Fleetwood, passed away on January 17, 2017 in his residence surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Mildred M. (Mengel) Oyler who passed in 2003.
Born on January 17, 1922, in Laureldale, he was the son of the late Charles Oyler and Alice (Fox) Oyler.
Melvin was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School class 1939. After High school he entered the U S Navy serving during World War II and Korea.
Returning home he worked for CAN Insurance in Reading after a few years he joined the Security of America Life Insurance Company in Reading which was sold to AIG Insurance. Melvin retired as an executive vice president in 1988.
He was a member of Trinity Bible Fellowship Church in Blandon. Melvin had been an active member of the Fleetwood Historical Society where he wrote articles for the society newsletter and cataloged items received by the society.
He loved being in the outdoors. Most importantly he enjoyed his family.
He is survived by his three sons Alan R. Oyler husband of Diane Oyler of Deluth, MN, Jerry D. Oyler husband of Carolyn Oyler of Fleetwood and Peter J. Oyler husband of Lisa Oyler of Mechanicsburg, PA. Grandchildren: Karl, Jared, Amanda, John, Micah, and Caleb. Great grandchildren: Chandler and Eva. Melvin was preceded in death by his siblings Raymond Oyler, Ralph Oyler, Mary Oylerr and Marian Oyler.
A viewing will be Tuesday morning from 10:00am to 11:00am at Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. Funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Burial will be in Maidencreek Cemetery, Blandon.
