Burgert
January 29, 1930 – January 2, 2021
Ray S. Burgert, age 90, of Maidencreek Township, passed away on Saturday January 2, 2021 at Penn State Health St. Joseph's, Bern Township. He was born in Maidencreek Township on the family farm. He was the son of the late William and Esther (Schaeffer) Burgert. Ray was the husband of the late June (Keller) Burgert who passed on February 24, 2015.
He was a 1947 graduate of Fleetwood High School. He was a member Maidencreek Church, Blandon. Other memberships include the Blandon Lions Club, Fleetwood Orioles Nest 23, American Legion Post 625, Fleetwood. He loved playing cards especially hazie. He loved hunting at the Sooner Camp and going to Delaware to catch flounder.
Ray's life was farming and the pride of having his family's farm. He was a hard worker and had many side businesses from sub leasing his truck to Cressona Trucking from 1966 to1985 to having an egg route and being a landlord. In retirement he was a bus driver for Berks Career Technology Center West for 16 years.
Ray is survived by his daughter Patricia Ann (Burgert) wife of David Glauser of Fleetwood and son Brian J. Burgert husband of Jan (Campbell) Burgert of Fleetwood. Also grandchildren Christopher M. Glauser husband of Karen E. (Stephens) Glauser, Ryan H. Glauser husband of Devin S. (Bruns) Glauser, Douglas W. Burgert husband of Melissa (Knowles) Burgert, Lauren E. (Burgert) wife of Adam Calm and Tyler Burgert companion of Lexi Brown. Also seven great grandchildren Riley Glauser, Hailey Glauser, Jaden Calm, Mason Burgert, Weston Burgert, Copper Calm and Daxton Burgert.
He was predeceased by siblings Harold S. Burgert and infant sister Catherine Burgert.
A viewing will be Thursday evening January 7 th from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood. A graveside service will be Friday January 8 th at 11:00 AM at Maidencreek Cemetery.
