Richard D."Dick" Homan, 86, of Fleetwood, passed away on January 13, 2014 at St. Joseph's Medical Center, after a 12 year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Betty R. (Shultz) Homan, they had been married 44 years in May.
Dick was born on September 30, 1927 in Walnuttown. He was the son of the late Claude V. Biehl and Ethel M. Homan Biehl.
He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War, prior in served as U S Merchant Marine.
A member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Fleetwood where he served as the church carpenter and repair person for many years.
Dick had been a truck driver for 34 years, employed by the former Jones Motor Freight, Co. Reading. After retiring he worked for A. R. Hoffman, Fleetwood for 12 years. With his brother's he was a co owner of a sawmill that did custom sawing. Dick loved woodworking and was know for his custom cabinets that he created.
He loved the outdoors, which included hunting and fishing and traveling the country in his motor home.
Surviving is his wife Betty, step son Richard J. Becker husband of Elizabeth Becker of Fleetwood. Step grandchildren Douglas A. Becker of Fleetwood, Lindsay Becker – Wilson wife of Michael Wilson. Other survivors include sister Vivian wife of Herbert Cronrath of Laureldale, brother Thomas Biehl husband of Pauline Biehl of Fleetwood and sister Nancy Kern wife of Kenneth Kern of Temple. Also a sister in law Loyala Biehl of Temple.
He was preceded in death by a brother Ralph Biehl.
Graveside services will be Saturday the 18th at 11:00AM from Fleetwood Cemetery, East Main Street, Fleetwood. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday the 19th from 2:00PM to 4:00PM in the fellowship room of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 27 West Washington Street, Fleetwood, PA 19522. Contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
