Robert D Franz, 93 of Shillington, formerly of Hamburg, Pa. passed away peacefully in his home with his loving wife of 49 years by his side on Saturday, December 15, 2018. He was the loving husband of Jacqueline (Graeff) Franz.
Born in Shinglehouse, PA he was the son of the late Jacob & Doris Franz. Robert was a graduate of Central Catholic High School class of 1943. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the military service, serving in the U S Air Force. After the Air Force, he attended McCann School of Business. Robert became the Childrens & Accessories buyer at Pomeroy's Dept Store in Reading. His next career move was to become one of the first buyers for Boscov's Dept Store at 9th St in Reading.
Robert and Jacqueline owned three retail sportswear shops in Potter County, Pa. Robert worked for various companies throughout his career, becoming a merchandise manager for Harrisburg Textile Company, Harrisburg, Pa; sales rep for Light Bros of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Galeton Gloves, Galeton, Pa. Robert's love of people led him to his retirement career of funeral greeter at two local funeral homes, Burkey and Driscoll Funeral Home, Hamburg, Pa, as well as Mae Stump Funeral Home, Fleetwood, Pa. He was a member of Christ Yocum Lutheran Church in Grill.
In 2012, Robert portrayed the founder of Tilden Township for the 125th anniversary of the township.
Robert is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; daughter Barbara (Franz), wife of Dennis Plaut of Fairfax, CA; sons, Daniel, husband of Janice (Quell) Franz of Navato, CA; Robert, husband of Tricia (Ciatto) Franz of Woodacre, CA; Michael, husband of Gaylyn (DeMartini) Franz of San Rafael, CA; stepdaughter Lisa (Smith), wife of Jeffrey Miller of Shillington, PA. Grandchildren, Abram and Spence Plaut, Danielle (Franz) Lyons, Dara (Franz) Takami, Terin Franz, all of California. Rachel (Miller) Bugay, Stuart Miller and 6 great-grandchildren.
Robert was predeceased by a sister, Helen and stepson, Michael Smith
A memorial service will be Saturday December 22 nd at 11:00 A.M. from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood.
