Obituary

Robert L. Hawkins, Sr., age 95, of Fleetwood, peacefully passed on November 29, 2023, at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading.. Born on September 3, 1928, in Fleetwood, son of the late John P. Hawkins and Esther J. (Bieber) Hawkins. He was the husband of the late Lucille J. (Homan) Hawkins

Robert weathered the challenges of the Great Depression, contributing to his family's well-being by working at Gilardone Knitting after school. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy, serving three years on the U.S.S. Manchester. Post-military service, he earned his Journeyman Plumber's license through night school and subsequently established the successful Robert Hawkins Plumbing and Heating business, a venture he passionately ran until his retirement in 1991.

Robert was more than a businessman; he was a community pillar. Engaging in various organizations, including the Fleetwood Auxiliary Police, Truck Crew, and Fleetwood Fire Company, he left an indelible mark on the Lyons Club of Fleetwood and the Fleetwood Fish and Game Association. A longstanding member of the Fleetwood Legion Post, he served as its Sergeant at Arms and was an inaugural member and past president of the Dead End Hunting Camp. His enduring commitment extended to the Breakfast Brothers, where he served for over 45 years.

A devoted husband to Lucille and a loving father to Keith J. Hawkins, Mark P.Hawkins, Robert L. Hawkins Jr., and Allison M. (Hawkins) Tienken, Robert's legacy lives on in the hearts of his family. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Hawkins, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
