Shirley A. Smith, age 66, of Mertztown, passed away on Friday morning November 24, 2017 in her residence surrounded by her family. She was the wife Russell P. Smith,

Born in Allentown on December 14, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Edward Ehrets and Mary (Newhard) Ehrets.  Shirley was a graduate of Brandywine High School class of 1968.   She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kutztown.

She was a very active with the Boy Scouts of America serving as a leader and assistant district commissioner for Topton Troop 510, Mertztown Troop 575 and New Jerusalem Troop 585. She was well known as a collector of Longaberger Baskets and Pampered Chef kitchen products and all kinds of candles. She enjoyed reading and going shopping.

Shirley had worked in the Office of the Register for Kutztown University for 30 years retiring in 2000.

Surviving are her husband Russell and son Mark R. Smith of Mertztown. Grandson Tyler H. Lance. Other survivors are a sister Patricia A. (Ehrets) Ohl of Mertztown and brothers Edward S. Ehrets, Shoemakersville and Bernard C. Ehrets of Lebanon. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 357 West Main Street, Kutztown.
