Stewart H. Eberly, 86, formerly of Feetwood, passed away peacefully in St Joseph's Medical Center September 12, 2012. He resided in Manorcare, Laureldale since 2006.

Born in 1926 in Hamburg, Pa he was -the son of the late George F. Eberly and Elsie (Heinly) Herring. He was a 1944 graduate of Fleetwood High School. He served in the US Army Air Corps and later flew small private aircraft for pleasure. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in 1951 serving Fleetwood as rural delivery carrier, town mail carrier and office clerk. In 1967 he became Fleetwood postmaster. He also was Kutztown postmaster for 1 year. After retiring in 1984, he was asked to manage Tarsus, Inc. a Fleetwood senior citizens workshop. Stewart played an intricate roll with the Tarsus Ministry. A revolutionary concept of church and community working together for the good of others. First as a "factory" which he managed from 1984-1998 where seniors can earn supplemental income. Tarsus later grew to include affordable housing and a bus ministry for seniors.

He was the loving husband of Mary (Kern) Eberly. They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on September 18. In addition to his wife survivors include his daughter, Sharon Delp, wife of Gene A. Delp, and a son, Gary K. Eberly, both of Fleetwood. There are 4 grandchildren: Jonathan Delp, Perry Hall, Maryland, Nathaniel Delp, Fleetwood, Rachel L. Eberly and Megan M. Eberly, Fleetwood. A brother, Donald F. Eberly resides in Greensboro, NC and another brother, Ernest G. Eberly, Fleetwood preceded him in death.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fleetwood, where he served as a former church councilman and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Huguenot Lodge No. 377 F&AM, Kutztown for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Horace M. Kieffer American Legion Post 625 where he was a former commander and served on various committees. Stewart served for 5 years on the Fleetwood Council of Community Organizations. He was also a former member of Fleetwood Lions Club and Berks County Postmasters' Association. He always was happiest being with people, helping others and doing things to help the community.

Funeral Services will be Monday at 10:30AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fleetwood. A viewing will be held Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30PM and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 117 E. Arch St., Fleetwoood, Pa.
