William E. "Billy" Bertolet, age 81, of Oley, passed away on Saturday January 14, 2017 in his residence surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Kay M. (Felix) Bertolet. They celebrated 60 years of marriage on April 28, 2016.
Born on April 21, 1935, in Oley. He was the son of the late William D. Bertolet and Esther (Lorah) Bertolet.
Billy was a 1953 graduate of Oley Valley High School where he graduated 3rd in his class. After high school he worked for the former Boyertown Auto Body Works from 1953 to 1990 when the business closed.
He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Oley and a life member of the Oley Fire Company. Billy was a fan of Oley sports, attending and supporting his Oley teams. Billy was always a Philadelphia Athletics fan even after they moved to other cities. Billy and Kay were season ticket holders to the Reading Phillies for 20 years and you could always find him watching the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles when they were on.. He loved growing plants and his house is filled with all kinds of varieties. His other interest was being a cartographer (map reader) who spent time enjoying geographic and topographic maps.
Survived by his wife Kay and children Sharon K. (Bertolet) wife of Michael Jacklin of Oley; Ronald E Bertolet of Bohemia, NY and Kathy L. (Bertolet) Capriolo and her partner Eric Crawford of Oley. Grandchildren: Melissa, Mariel, Lindsey, Dominic, Jeremy and Dre. Great grandchildren: Riley, Natalie, Allison, Jayden and Arabella. Nephews; Doug and Gene.
Billy was predeceased by his brother John L. Bertolet, sister Emily Weidner and nephew Edwin L. Weidner.
The family especially gives thanks to Billy's guardian angel Kim Lydon, Nightengale Devoted Care and Heartland Hospice.
A viewing will be held Friday morning from 9:00am to 11:00am at the Friedens UCC Main Street, Oley. Followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Burial will be in Bertolet Union Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Heartland Hospice, 2201 Ridgewood Road, Suite 180, Wyomissing, PA.
